the Heart It is a pump that, with its contractions, sends blood to all the organs and tissues of the body. Blood pressure is the pressure that the heart exerts to circulate blood in the body.

Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). The value of blood pressure is given by two numbers: the first is the systolic pressure (measured when the heart contracts and pumps blood into the arteries), the second is the diastolic pressure (measured between two contractions, while the heart relaxes and fills with blood).

A blood pressure that does not exceed 120 mmHg for systolic and 80 mmHg for diastolic is considered “desirable”.

Hypertension It develops when the walls of large arteries lose their natural elasticity and become stiff, and the smaller blood vessels become narrowed and blood pressure exceeds 140/90 mmHg. High blood pressure puts strain on the heart, can enlarge it, make it less efficient, and promote atherosclerosis. Because of this, people with high blood pressure are at increased risk of heart attack or stroke. High blood pressure can also cause kidney failure and damage eyesight.
